A GEORGE III STERLING SILVER GOBLET, MARK OF THOMAS & RICHARD PAYNE, ARMORIAL CREST ENGRAVED, LONDON, CIRCA 1778,
having a gilt washed bowl, with later floral engraving and armorial crest of two lion's paws, erased, in saltier and inverted on a bar, attributed to the Leybourns family, the foot with milrey "ruffled" engraving and bead detail; height: 6", approximate weight: 190.5 grams.

  • Provenance: Collection of Katherine Pitcher, Leonardtown, Maryland; Wayne Cox, Abilene, Texas; Retailed by D&D Antiques, specialists in 18th and 19th century English and Continental silver, David J. Smith, Berkshire, June 21, 2005.
  • Condition: Engraving is later added and in the Victorian taste. Some expected surface wear.
