AN ANTIQUE MUSICAL CYLINDER BOX, POSSIBLY BY MERMOD FRERES, NUMBER 37086, CIRCA 1890, the rectangular rosewood inlaid hinged lid centering a marquetry musical trophy within kingwood crossbanding, above a mahogany paneled face flanked by faux grained sides enclosing cast bronze handles, before a faux grained back panel, raised on a conforming ebonized molded plinth and rounded rectangular feet, opening to an interior lid centering a polychrome print depicting an 18th Century interior scene of a dancing maiden with her instructor and musician, before a chaperone couple playing chess, above a hinged glass dust window, revealing a single cylinder playing 8 tunes by a steel comb and nickel plated crank winding mechanism, mounted with Jacot's Safety Check (patented Sept. 22, 1886), tune selector, moderator, play/stop lever, and a winding key.
