A CHINESE EXPORT EBONIZED WOOD FIGURAL DRAGON ARMCHAIR, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, POSSIBLY REPUBLIC PERIOD (1912-1949), the shield form back with a mother-of-pearl inlaid eye phoenix carved crest within pierced swirling clouds, over two adorsed male and female scaled dragon tails centering an oval medallion back issuing two serpentine relief carved dragon body form arms, mother-of-pearl, and bone inlaid eye relief bearded dragon head terminals, each with a pearl of wisdom in their mouths, and their three toed feet and legs stand on swirling cloud supports, above a shaped seat with a Greek key carved edge, on cabriole legs with front relief carved bat knees leading to scrolled feet joined by a serpentine bat wing and swirling cloud carved skirt centering a third pearl of wisdom. Condition:
There are minor expected scratches, dents, and chips throughout, but occurring mostly near the arms and knees. Some apparent repairs are observed overall including small nail repairs and wood fill repairs intermittently throughout. Some rubbing to the ebonized finish is observed at the armrests and there is some notable wear to the finish on the seat. One leg has a slight joint separation at the skirt, otherwise in sturdy good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
