A FRENCH NAPOLEON III PERIOD GILT BRONZE MOUNTED RED MARQUETRY BOULLE INLAID GLAZED BOOKCASE CABINET, PARIS, 1855-1870, the flattened arched or ogival form cabinet crown mounted at the center with a projecting draped cartouche form gilt bronze mount over acanthus scrolls, monogrammed at the center, flanked by gilt bronze draped urn form finials, over a stepped frieze with repeating gilt bronze mounts centering bands of "premiere partie" red tortoiseshell and brass Boulle inlay, flanked by rosettes mounted at the canted corners; the cornice over a glazed door of conforming truncated ogival form, encrusted with repeating bands of red tortoise and brass inlay, cornered by fan shaped gilt bronze mounts and centering mask form mounts, the left lifting to reveal the lock escutcheon; the door flanked by canted pilasters mounted with projecting gilt bronze Bacchus therm figures, within a field of similar Boulle inlay, at the base acanthus leaf volute form gilt bronze mounts, the pilasters centered by round gilt bronze rosette mounts; the sides with Boulle inlaid panels centering a large gilt bronze rosette mounted tondos; the whole raised on a canted corner plinth base framed with quatrefoil form fruiting acanthus plaques, joined by a serpentine form gilt bronze repeating pattern border centering a gilt bronze mask of a female warrior, terminating in cast bronze flat bun feet with egg and dart motif, the interior with four moveable oak shelves with ebonized pear wood front border, the back, sides, and bottom upholstered in maroon velvet, constructed of ebonized pear wood, oak, and walnut, remnants of a printed label but illegible, the Bacchus mounts marked verso "Doré," numerous positioning marks in Roman numerals.   • Condition: In overall fair to good used condition, with areas of loss and lifting of the Boulle inlay; small areas of prior old restoration; ebonized finish renewed in several scattered areas; fabric lining faded and desiccating; evidence of prior water exposure, with verdigris developing on the gilt bronze feet; front left foot with bent mount.
