A GEORGE III DIMINUTIVE FIGURED-MAHOGANY AND SATINWOOD, TULIPWOOD, AND EBONY CROSSBANDED LIBRARY CABINET-ON-CHEST, CIRCA 1785, the inlaid swan neck pediment centering a cavetto molded cornice above the rectangular case fitted with glazed and tracery-segmented double doors opening to a linen lined shelved interior, the case surmounting a lower serpentine front chest of four graduating long drawers with hand constructed dovetail joinery, extensive cross banding around the boldly figured surfaces accented by keyhole escutcheons and later oval mounts with bail handles, each with a Prince of Wales feathers central medallion, above a shaped apron and supported by splayed bracket feet. NOTE: The glazing bars to the doors are similar to a design for a library bookcase illustrated by Thomas Shearer, "The Cabinet-Maker's London Book of Prices," London, 1793, pl. 1.
