A PRE-COLUMBIAN BLACK SPECKLED RED PAINTED GOURD FORM EARTHENWARE VASE, COLIMA, WEST COAST, MEXICO, POSSIBLY 300 A.D. - 950 A.D., of compressed circular tripod form with sides modeled as continuous vertical reeding, beneath a short cylindrical neck and flaring to a conforming flat rim, raised on tapering parrot head legs. NOTE: This gourd form vessel is stylistically related to the black earthenware gourd form vessels crafted by the indigenous Colima and Chupicuaro peoples, inhabiting the Guanajuato Valley of Mexico in the Pre-Columbian era, (500 B.C. - CIRCA 9500 A.D.) This vase comes with a copy of the original sales receipt from Frank Caro, 41 East 57th St, New York, NY, December 12, 1967 and includes a detailed description and stating that it is, "West Coast culture 300 AD-950AD from Colima, Mexico."
