A PRE-COLUMBIAN SEATED FEMALE FIGURINE, ZACATECAS, MEXICO, POSSIBLY 200 B.C.- 250 A.D., the hollowed figure shown seated with hands on hips, having exaggerated bulbous legs,t he flattened face with open oval shaped mouth, large protruding nose and carved oval eye sockets, the ears adorned with red slip disc earrings, has paint remnants of black, and red on a cream colored slip, with vertical banding, separated by black wavy lines, with black banding along the arms and mouth. NOTE: The significance of these types of figures is not clearly known, it is believed that they are fertility idols. Height: 9 1/2" Width: 4 1/2"
