pierced edge dish upheld by coral crowning a mermaid on a rocaille base, the foot with personalized engraving, "Galveston Wharf Co. to H. de St. Cyr...February 27th, 1874" marked, "Sterling," design attributed to Charles Osborne and Whiting Manufacturing Co.; height: 9 1/2", diameter: 9 1/4", total approximate weight: 930 grams.

  • Notes: Henri de St. Cyr was a Frenchman involved in wharf building in Galveston and a partner in the Texas Telegraph Co. St. Cyr is also recorded as conducting a large cotton and importing business, as well as constructing one of the first two story brick buildings in Galveston, Texas. The building was located at the corner of the Strand and 25th Street, but demolished in the 1890s when the first Union railway passenger station was constructed.
  • Condition: This piece has some wear, scratches, and apparent age.
