A RESTAURATION "PSYCHE INSTRUCTING CUPID" ORMOLU MANTLE CLOCK, PARIS, 1820-1840, the winged goddess Psyche with an elaborate upswept hairstyle of a braided chignon wrapped within a berried laurel stem adorned band above delicate curls framing her lovely expression over her shapely figure wearing an Empire gown and playing a fine harp while seated on a square form case, supporting Cupid's torch en flambeau and his bow while he stands gazing adoringly at the goddess instructor with hands held in the position she plays, at his feet is his discarded quiver of arrows and behind her is a three sided pedestal with mounts of classical era musical instruments beneath a rose blooms filled tazza centering love birds, the case centering a crisply cast rose blooms circular bezel within anthemion and leafy floret corner spandrels enclosing a white enamel dial of black Roman chapters and Briquet steel hands over twin key escapements, above a rectangular base with applied frieze of winged youths holding long ribbon ends of an intricately detailed floral swag, centering a seated Psyche being crowned by a fluttering infant Cupid on left and a cherub playing her harp on right, raised on a conforming plinth with continuous anthemion leaf modeled trim and compressed orb feet with leaf tip and engine turned banding, reversing to an unmarked eight day movement with pendulum hand engraved "Monncapolis AB."   • Condition: Right tip of lyre is lacking, the back left pedestal with nesting doves is missing two mounts, the dial has some small chips on the winding keyhole edges, gilding has some light wear and a few tiny spots scattered throughout but otherwise is in good shape.
