AN ANTIQUE POLYCHROME PAINTED ICON OF THE BAPTISM OF CHRIST, NORTHERN SCHOOL, 19TH CENTURY, enclosed by a rectangular stained wood kiot with hinged glass door, opening to a painted wood panel of Christ's baptism by John the Baptist beneath the dove of the Holy Spirit, amidst a meandering stream flanked by trees and a rocky landscape, within a conforming giltwood frame centering applied egg-and-dart trim bordered by reticulated scrolling foliage. Height: 11 1/4" Width: 9"
- Condition: Old restorations throughout, crackled paint surface, small areas of flaking, some small scratches, surface buildup, on a slightly curved wood panel reversing to two horizontal wood braces. The kiot has normal marks and small scratches, discolored areas, gilding worn in areas with some gilt touch ups, old chips.
