the reproduction, late 20th century revival longcase clock created after the famous "Astronomical Case Clock," originally designed in 1812 for Thomas Jefferson's private suite of rooms at Monticello to keep time for the President, specifically regarding eclipses, the broken arched crest with floret medallions centers an urn finial over a reeded frieze column above a concave and molded frieze to a figured mahogany glazed door with arched window opening to reveal a lithographed tin face with Roman numerals hours, Arabic minutes and an Arabic numeral seconds subdial, with single wind, housing blued steel chimes, brass weights, the brass pendulum on a wood rod concealed by a crotched pendulum door flanked by engaged reeded columns, on a bookmatched flame mahogany base raised on splayed legs, the clockface with inplate signature, "Thos. Voight Philada." Height: 93 1/2" Width: 19 3/4" Depth: 11 3/4"

  • Condition: Minor surface wear, the clock is a late 20th century reproduction and facsimile after the original, with minor expected wear throughout. The present reproduction is attributed to Franklin Heirloom Furniture and Colonial Clock Co., Zeeland, Michigan from a batch of less than 200, circa 1970s.
