AN ENGLISH EDWARDIAN CARVED OAK AND MAHOGANY FOLDING OFFICER'S "CABINETTA" CAMPAIGN BED, WALES, 1899-1918, as a side table, the top has two serpentine arched molded rails, the lid lifting open to the folded bed, over a fall front door centering an inset panel with an applied circular cabochon medallion within two ribbon twist liners, height: 22 1/4", depth: 10 1/4"; as a bed, the top lid with a gilt foil trademark opens to an interior expanding canvas bed, height: 25 1/4", width: 30 7/8", depth: 72". NOTE: Used by Officers in the British Navy during the Boer War (1899-1902) and World War I (1914-1918) during campaigns to sleep on, or use as a side table. Patented in 1907 with registration number 671701/3-682827.

Condition:
The wood areas have an apparent refinish. The textile portion has some staining, tears and deterioration of the supportive straps. Some oxidation and slight bends are noted occasionally to the metal hardware. The whole with some minor dents and mild surface wear, otherwise in good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
