AN IMPERIAL STYLE CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN FIGURAL IDOL OF ERLANG SHEN, POSSIBLY MING DYNASTY (1368-1644), BEARING A XUANDE STYLE MARK (1426- 1435), TRADITIONALLY IN THE MANNER OF CALLIGRAPHER SHENDU, the flaming finial topped helmet centering a flaming pearl of wisdom and flanked by scrolled wings, the figure gazes downward with a furrowed, dramatic brow centering a third eye, over a profusely decorated suit of armor including splashing waves, dragons, dragon scales, and flowers, all highlighted by relief animal masks at the shoulders, elbows and knees. He gestures towards a central dragon mask buckle and stands on a swirling cloud base centering his seated saluki hound, a six character mark. Height: 46" Diameter: 16"

Condition:
There are some losses to the helmet's outermost details. Various apparent repairs throughout, most notably to the right arm and side, now with some yellowing glue residue and inpainting. Some expected chips and losses are noted throughout but mostly at base. A loss of the right hand is noted, otherwise in fair to good condition, wear commensurate with age.
