AN UNUSUAL NAPOLEON III PARCEL GILT AND POLYCHROME PAINTED PINK GROUND PORCELAIN VASE, THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY, the oviform body with one side centering an oval reserve of Paul and Virginia in a loving embrace while seated before lush tropical foliage within a conforming burnished and matte gilt border of reed and ball trimmed in blossoming scrolling foliage, ending in a shaped rectangular panel inscribed "PAUL et VIRGINIE" reversing to a ciselee gilt floral stems bouquet, above a tapering acanthus cast band, surmounted by a trumpet form neck and rounded rim, flanked by stylized scrolling tailed dragon form handles with pumpkin plugged open mouths, raised on a circular socle and molded base enclosed by continuous gilt leaf decoration, on a reticulated scrolling foliate gilt bronze base interspersed with Gothic Revival portrait busts.
