HARRY JACKSON (AMERICAN 1924-2011) A PATINATED BRONZE SCULPTURE, "Salty Dog," copyrighted, signed and dated "1959" in the bronze, verso numbered "39," underside impressed, "WSF 1968," raised on a conforming black lacquered wood plinth. Height: 10.00" Width: 5.00" Depth: 4.00" Note: Harry Jackson, born in Chicago where as early as 5, started riding and drawing cowboys. Over the years he made sketches of ranches and cowboys he had befriended. These became his favorite subjects in paintings as well as sculpture. This eventually led to not only cowboys and ranches, but Native Americans and life of the American Far West. In 1954 he visited important museums in Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Spain. In 1955 upon his return to the US, he shifted his abstract style into one more of the realism genre. From 1957 to '61 he traveled to Italy with a Fulbright Foundation scholarship and assistance from the Italian Government. There he learned sculpting and casting at an Italian foundry. By 1964 he had already purchased land in Camaiore Italy where he established his home, studio, workshop and foundry - the Wyoming Foundry Studios or WFS (1964-1985). His paintings and sculptures are in both private and public museum collections spread across the United States, Europe and China. His success throughout his life included monumental commissions as well as works being given as Presidential gifts to heads of state and royalty.
