TWO ASMAT BEADED AND CARVED CASSOWARY BONE DAGGERS, PAPUA, NEW GUINEA, THIRD QUARTER 20TH CENTURY, each in natural animal bone form with a braided twine wrapped socket pommel suspending painted seed and tubular horn beads as well as long black cassowary feather pendants, above a tapering hollowed shaft ending in a raised triangular point, the longest length: 14 3/4", the shortest length: 14". NOTE: These Asmat bone daggers were purchased during a trip to Indonesia in 1973. The femur bone used in these daggers, comes from the Cassowary bird, which is flightless and much like the Ostrich or Emu. It's habitat is in the tropical forests of New Guinea, surrounding islands, and north east Australia.
