A TEMPERA ON IRON DUAL SIDED PILGRIM'S ICON OF MARY MOTHER OF GOD WITH INFANT JESUS AND ST. NICHOLAS, PROBABLY PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC, 19TH CENTURY, the pierced iron oval medallion painted with images of Mary, Mother of God, with a halo over a crimson star decorated robe and blue dress, holding the infant Jesus, who wears a white and gold robe, gesturing in blessing with one hand and holding a globus cruciger in the other, both flanked by writing; the verso with a red painted border framing an image of a haloed St. Nicholas with white hair and beard, wearing a golden color robe with green and red vestments, gesturing in blessing with one hand and holding a medallion encrusted Book of the Gospels in the other, flanked by like writing. Height: 4" Width: 3 3/8"

Condition:
There are some paint losses and cracquelure throughout, a darkening of the paint colors all over, mild paint deterioration near Mary's eye, and some mild evidence of 19th century inpainting, otherwise in good condition, wear commensurate with age.
